Ford Anglia

A little history

Ford’s British subsidiary renewed its entry-level Anglia in 1959. As opposed to the rather mild Anglia 100E it succeeded, the new popular Ford, the Anglia 105E, mimicked American styling of the era by incorporating chromes, rear fins and the strange inverted back window then featured across the Atlantic on Lincolns and Mercurys. Though perhaps it would appear to some as odd-looking by today’s standards, the new Anglia was rather attractive back then. Furthermore, it performed so well that many ended competing in touring cars races. Initially available only as a two-door saloon, the original Anglia was joined by a two-door estate at the 1961 London motor show. Its career extended until 1967, its final production tally passing the million-mark, making the little car one of the most ubiquitous vehicles on British roads during the Sixties.

(This car’s history will be expanded in due time, please be patient.)

About the model

Model: Ford Anglia Deluxe
Year: 1962
Maker: Ixo
Scale: 1/43
Distributed by: Altaya as no.72 of its Nos Chères Voitures d'Antan press series
Acquired: brand new, in April 2007, in Souillac, France

Altaya had originally released its Nos Chères Voitures d'Antan series (the title can be roughly translated as "Our beloved cars of yesteryear"), exclusively sold in France, as a collection of French cars commonly seen on the country's roads from the late Forties to the Mid-Seventies. Success bred greed. Altaya decided to extend its series by incorporating various die-casts, originally released in collections it distributed in Spain and Portugal with a similar concept but totally different models. French collectors were then landed with such exotic cars as a Pegaso or a Voisin Biscuter... The Anglia is among those late additions. Hardly typical of French motoring during the Sixties, it has been nonetheless well rendered by Ixo, Altaya's usual partner. Quality is very good considering it's a press release, details are well done and the paint's choice is tasteful. A pleasant model well worth 13/20.
