Renault Suprastella

A little history

Though condemned by post-war plans to produce popular cars exclusively, Renault had been a luxury automobiles manufacturer up to World War Two. Its 40 CV model saw a long-running production until late in the Twenties, being sold to industrialists and screen idols. A succession of Renaults was also used as the French presidents’ official transportation. Shortly before World War Two, Renault released its Suprastella, which was to be its very last luxury car.

(This car’s history will be expanded in due time, please be patient.)

About the model

Model: Renault Suprastella
Year: 1939
Maker: Ixo
Scale: 1/43
Distributed by: Altaya as no.19 of its Voitures Classiques press series
Acquired: brand new, in June 2006, in Souillac, France

Ixo again did a correct job – nonetheless excellence isn’t for press releases, as a rule. Virtually no separate parts here, as handles, windshield wipers and other details are all moulded with the body and the windshield. The seats look too much "plastic-like" to my liking. The model looks heavy, particularly from the rear – nothing shameful in this, the Renaults had factory bodies that had very few in common with the supreme elegance displayed by contemporary Figoni’s or Letourneur & Marchand’s creations. I’d give a 11/20 to this model.
